ISLAMIC, Mongols. Ilkhanids. Ghiyath al-Din Muhammad Khudabanda Öljeytü, AH 703-716 / AD 1304-1316. Fals (Bronze, 18 mm, 4.55 g), Sultaniya, AH 713 = AD 1313/4. 'Adl-i Shahr-i Sultaniya' (in Persian). Rev. 'Tali'-i sal-i 'Aqrab' ('fortunate year of the scorpion' in Persian) and '713' (in Persian) in center, Uyghur monogram. Album 2190B. Extremely rare. Somewhat rough, otherwise, very fine.

This coin commemorates the dedication of the new capital of Sultaniya, located northwest of Qazwin. The design of this type resembles contemporary Chinese Yuan dynasty cash, lacking only the characteristic round hole in the middle of the flan.
